Had a bit of a low-speed moment today

Summer tires and wet roads at 5°C aren’t the best of friends, apparently. No harm done, thankfully, though target fixation did set in, even at 10 km/h.

Anyone know of a car control course in the Benelux that specializes in mid-engined cars without traction control, rather than the standard ESP’ed FWD econoboxes?

Hahaha, I’ve got an Mk3 luckily, so the nose kept pointing in the (somewhat) right direction. Initial slide was quite composed actually, but I overcorrected a bit. The weight transfer caught me out most, but then again, it rides higher than some crossovers.

Finding a car control course specificly for mid-engined cars might be a tough one.

Maybe you can find a ‘bring your own car’ car control course? I know there are a few of those in the Netherlands, so I expect Belgium to have a few too.

Probably, though I’d have to find some beater tires then. There’s a course close to me that used to have a couple of Opel GTs, which would’ve been somewhat similar, but they’ve moved to an all-Astra setup.

That’s an interesting car choice for a car control course. One near me uses Minis and 1 series, so people get to experience car control in both FWD and RWD cars, which makes it sort of fun. Though the 1 series are 116i s so I guess they just took the cheapest new RWD cars they could find.

Stay safe out there and find an empty car park to practice in.

To be fair my Golf GTI get’s a bit slidey when it’s cold, the Goodyear tyres on the back aren’t as grippy as the Michelins on the front. I need to replace them soon for better balance.
